We are facing an epidemic of pornography online of which the repercussions are still not fully understood. In fact it is frightening. With the click of a mouse, anyone, at any age, anytime can view porn online.
Governments are still tangled up by the “it is a free-speech issue” argument. The porn industry has managed to hold onto the theory that porn is victimless entertainment which involves only an individual and the consenting adults who participate. Regulations has yet to catch up with reality and with technology. In a world where anyone can produce and upload porn videos or images, the web is becoming filled to the brim with hardcore pornography and disturbing content that no one should be exposed to, aside from our children!
A written report from the Witherspoon Institute in Princeton, N.J.,entitled, “The Social Costs of Pornography” points to new social science and brain research, and finds evidence that pornography causes multifaceted harms and warns that people will pay the price because of this.
Porn is teaching negative behaviors and attitudes towards sexuality. Even though for adults this can be a big problem, for children that are seeing it, it is a disaster that can impact their ability to have any sort of healthy sexual relationship when they grow up.
